As another initiative in promoting scientific research from the undergraduate level, we have initiated a chemistry programme. The Project-Oriented Chemical Education (POCE) has completed 11 years. Ten meritorious students are selected from across the country for each of these programmes. As part of this, students work with the Centre's faculty members on projects during their mid-semester breaks. They also attend special lectures and seminars at the Centre. Upon completing their training which lasts for three summers, they are issued a Diploma certificate in Chemistry as the case may be.

Research Area

The Center conducts a Project-Oriented Chemistry Education (POCE) programme for students studying in B.Sc first year (PCM) to explore their academic potential, stimulate more profound interest in science and infuse creativity and scientific temper amongst undergraduate students. Selected students will be allowed to attend lectures, participate in laboratory projects and research. The programme will be conducted during the summer vacation for 6 to 8 weeks over three consecutive summers. Selected students are expected to commit to the programme for three years, and successful candidates will receive a Diploma in Chemistry from the Centre. Specialization in advanced materials will be possible during the last year. Those who complete the POCE programme with outstanding performance will be eligible for admission to the Centre's MS-PhD programme, subject to satisfactory performance in the interview.

Eligibility criteria

Students presently studying in the 1styear of three year B.Sc programme only (preferably with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, (PCM) combination).

Terms and Validity

  • The total number of Fellowships offered will be upto 10. A scholarship of Rs. 10000/- per month will be provided.
  • The list of selected candidates will be announced on the JNCASR web site http://www.jncasr.ac.in/fe/poce.php. The selected candidates will be intimated by email. Further enquiries or correspondence regarding the application status will not be entertained. Mere applying to the programme and satisfying the eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection. Selected candidates must indicate their acceptance within one weeks of the email sent or else it will be presumed that they are not interested in joining the programme and the offer will be cancelled automatically. Any correspondence after the cancellation will not be entertained.
